The Presbytery of Newark Calls New General Presbyter

At its June 27, 2006 meeting, the Presbytery of Newark elected the Rev. Dr. Kevin Yoho to the position of General Presbyter, and he began his work with us on July 1, 2006. We believe he is the person God has led to us to join with in transforming ministry, partnering with us on a pilgrimage that will take us from where we have been to where we want to be. We are a people of God moving in faith, striving to discern Christ’s will and way, seeking to form a Presbytery responsive to the Spirit’s guiding, being a blessing in our world.

Kevin comes to us from 23 years in parish ministry. He has served as an inner city pastor in various communities of Philadelphia, especially in Kensington, where his ministry received national media attention. He also served as a pastor in the presbyteries of West Jersey, Philadelphia, and Palisades.

For the past two years, Kevin has been on the staff of the West Jersey Presbyery with particular responsibility for Congregational Transformation, New Church Development, and Mission Funding. During his time in West Jersey, Kevin coached groups of pastors in transformational skill-building, chaired the Extreme Makeover: Church Edition event, spoke at conferences, published printed and web content, and consulted with Synod and GA staff in the areas of congregational renewal and transformation.

Kevin came under care by the National Capital Presbytery and was ordained by the Palisades Presbytery in 1982. He is a graduate of Washington Bible College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he was graduated in 1981. In 1999, Palmer Theological Seminary of Philadelphia conferred on him the Doctor of Ministry degree in Revitalizing the Local Church for Mission with Distinction for his thesis on urban church renewal, capacity-building, and public and private collaboration.

Kevin was married to Dr. Melissa Arnott in October 2005. They make their home in Glassboro, NJ.

Kevin is joyfully and humbly looking forward to the implementation of the presbytery's new mission design for transformational leadership. He will be investing 40% of his time out of the "office" partnering and working with the entire Presbytery of Newark, helping us re-direct our ministry assets outward to the communities and world we serve and love.

He can be reached at the presbytery office, or send him email at dr.kevinyoho@pbynewark.org .

At the conclusion of the memorable June 27th presbytery meeting, the Moderator invited Kevin to offer his benediction:

To God be the glory,
to the earth be peace,
to the people be courage, and
to the city be hope.
